Frequently asked questions

What are the conference hours?

The conference will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th October.  Join us from 8 a.m. on Sunday for vegan waffles and coffee at the conference venue.

Will there be a conference dinner?

We are planning a vegan dinner for participants on the Friday and Sunday evenings at GG Bistro (formerly Grater Goods) in the central city. You are welcome to order what you wish (there is no requirement for a set menu), but we will need to let the restaurant know numbers in advance.  RVSP essential if you wish to attend: animalrightsgathering@gmail.com

Will there be other associated events?

There will be an independently organised action on Monday 27th October that you may wish to attend, so please consider this when booking travel and accommodation. See the Facebook event page for further details.

How much is the registration fee?

We suggest a minimum of $120 waged and approximately $80 unwaged or low-waged. This iincludes meals but does not included accommodation. Please contact us if cost is a barrier to your attendance, and we can discuss options.

What about accommodation?

The venue does not have on-site accommodation, so please make your own arrangements. The conference is in central Christchurch, very close to the bus interchange. If accommodation costs may hinder you participating, please get in touch, and we may be able to arrange billets.

Is the venue accessible?

The venue is fully accessible and wheelchair-friendly, with gender-neutral toilets. We plan to appoint an equity officer who will be specifically attending to this important area.

Are meals provided and will these cater to my dietary requirements?

Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be supplied on both the Saturday and the Sunday, and a breakfast of waffles and coffee will be provided from 8 a.m. on the Sunday morning. On Saturday evening, you are warmly invited to attend Christchurch's monthly Vegan Night Mākete, where you can purchase your evening meal.

All catering will be vegan. If you have specific allergies or intolerances, please contact us when you register and we will discuss what we can do to meet your needs, though our caterer may not be able to practicably provide for all dietary requirements.

What is your health and safety policy?

The venue has quiet rest spaces available. There is an air filtration system but there is no HEPA. We will provide masks and hand sanitiser. We encourage RAT testing before attending. If you are unwell, please stay home!

Can children attend and will childcare be provided?

Please note that this conference is intended for adults only, and some presentations may include content and images of animal abuse that are disturbing and inappropriate for children, especially younger children. If you may need to bring a child with you, please contact us and we can discuss options and whether this is suitable.

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide childcare. If this would prevent you attending, please get in touch.

Who are we?

The conference committee are a bunch of long-time animal rights activists who have been involved in a wide range of organising and campaigns over the years. The event will be hosted on the ground by the Christchurch Vegan Society Te Rōpū Whēkana o Ōtautahi.
